Salvador Figueroa Kuranda artist Salvador Figueroa was born in Spanish Morocco and worked as an interior decorator in Paris and Sydney before taking up jewellery making in Australia. Salvador is renowned for his versatility of design and finesse of craftsmanship using Australian materials such as wild pig tusks, black coral, brown coral and a variety of gem stones. Every item is an individual work of art. In the 80's Salvador did forsake his life on the banks of north Queensland's Barron River to work as an avant-garde jewellery maker in the United States. He was first asked to move to the US after a public exhibition of his work in Houston, Texas, attracted the attention of the Tiffanys store president. Figueroa, then 42, was selected as master in residence by the Apollo Muses, a non-profit art foundation based on Fifth Avenue, New York. Salvador has finally accepted to part with his "Jewellery box", a collector's piece which will delight art collectors of tribal art. The three main pieces are representing New Guinea, Australia and Hawaii symbols. Even the box has been lovingly crafted by Salvador. The items are not meant to be sold separately but as a collector's piece.
